Yesterday, I went to ITC Permata Hijau. I didn't visit there for several month. And I got surprised, when I saw traffic in first floor. A lot of vendors rent a space in that floor. They sell various products. It's better than I visited last time. Previously, only at in front of Carrefour which busy traffic.

Then when I shopping at Carrefour at basement floor, they add number of cashier, so hopefully, queue can be reduced. So far, it's work.

Learning English is suck!

To all reader this posting, please forgive me if u feel upset read the title. I just want to express my feeling. I don't know, how long I've been trying to learn english. Since I was junior high school til today. I forgot how many english course which I ever took. ELTI, SEU, PATRA, and learning by doing, but how come I still stupid in english.

That's why I posting in english in this blog. I'm sure only this way will help me to accelerate my english. Eventhough I know, you will find any mistake in my posting. But yeah… KULDESAK..

If you ask me, what's your aim to have a blog? To learn english? study to be an author? I just can say, I DON'T KNOW. Wet Market it's not my first blog. Believe it or not, I have more than 2. Is it well manage? some of them I can say yes, because I posting regularly. And the rest hehehehe …

Truly, one of my aim is I try to express all of my day, in my job, my life, etc, in english. My other blog are in my mother language.

Ok, If you know how to learn english best, please let me know. Believe me, Learning english is suck, but is not always hate England and David Beckham …..

The leader can be beaten!

The leader is not life time leader. This morning I got news that Wal Mart sold their all stores in South Korea to local player. Hahahaha. It's second news that make me laugh. Because some weeks ago, I got similar news. When French giant hypermarket withdraw all stores in South Korea.

For Carrefour, I think it was 3rd country that they closes all stores. Firstly in Hongkong, but they still control all its business in Asia from here. Secondly in Japan. And now in South Korea. Will it continued in other country?

Carrefour still strong in China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia. Wal Mart ever suffered in Indonesia. When Wal Mart came to Indonesia, actually the competition still low than now. Only Makro and Alfa that lead the market. But currently getting crowd. Old players like Alfa, shift its stores concept to modern hypermarket from Wholesaler. The new players are coming, for instance, Giant, Hypermarket.

The lesson is the leader can be beaten !

Be Different !

Last week, I met one of Marketing Guru's in a workshop. I ask him about war in Retail Industry, especially in between hypermarket. When Carrefour came to Indonesia end of 90s, they lead the market alone. Wal Mart withdraw its all the business from Indonesia. Giant and Hypermart enter into the market in 2002-2004. Meanwhile Makro and Alfa, both which were old players in Retail Market started left by customer. So, Carrefour became a leader. Strong financial back up, Trading Term, Good Location.

What his comment? The important thing is be different. If all player follow the leader (Carrefour), what differentiation that offered to customer?. They should think what differentiaton that they has. He give an example, Ranch Market [RM] has only 4 outlet, but they still exist and can compete in the market. Why? Because their customer coming from high end market. People that has strong purchasing power. Not disturbing with crisis in whole country. RM offered different product, such as Organic Vegetable, Imported product.

Another example is Macan Yaohan Syariah. A retail store which owned by Chinese that convert to muslim. This store targeting in muslim market that dominant in Indonesia. Eventhough has only 1 outlet, they can compete and beat another retailers.

So, a lesson from above story is differentiation not only bring customer into high end market [upper price segment]. It could be based on location [guerrilla strategy], or how to offered product to customer.
